Many many thanks Charles.   You solved our chiming problem.
I topped up the brake fluid reservoir and no more chiming.  I'm a bit 
slow responding to you because I wanted to be sure the brake fluid did 
the trick.  

The reservoir wasn't low enough to add fluid, so I assume that's why it 
wasn't topped up by the service garage.  We get 3 or 4 oil changes per 
year, wanting to avoid the infamous sludge problem.
