Unless you have a scan tool and not just a code reader you will not be
able
to retrieve all the fault codes including theft/skim faults. Most code
readers will only read P-codes.A scan tool will be needed to verify cam,
crank, map TPS......... readings to see what's going on with it. Fuel
pressure testing would also be a good thing at this point.
The engine may be shot, ask your son in-law was there any noise when it
cut
off.
