It seems like a very likely problem to me that there is a vac*** leak.
Few months ago, I had got the spark plugs, spark plug wires and
crankshaft sensor on my '96 chrysler sebring convertible replaced from
a mechanic, and the car started misfiring really badly. I took it back
to the mechanic for inspection and he identified it to a vac*** leak..
i do not know what exact component introduced the vac*** leak, but it
did fix my engine misfire.
It would seem to me that you have a similar situation since the
symptoms are the same, and I guess checking on this will surely be
cheaper than looking into any other things like timing belt, etc.
