This varies. We've done this before - got temp tags in MT, and
registered the vehicle in VA. Also, MT has no sales tax, which is one
reason why we're picking it up there. VA isn't very nice - if you don't
pay the same amount of taxes on your vehicle you would in VA, they'll
charge you the difference. But, if you pay more, of course they don't
refund you...
I remembered the MT temp tags as being 30 days, but hubby didn't believe
me (my memory is notoriously unreliable) and we needed to know to plan
our cross-country journey.
