Hi, I've had my 85 4cyl since 94, the previous owner took it offroading,
and
I've rescued it from certain death. I'm still in the middle of restoring
it,
for the cylinders bored out by .030 with new matching pistons and rings, 3
angle grind on the new valves, .025 shaved off the head, more agressive
camshaft (but not too agressive) bronze valve guide inserts, new oil pump
timing set, lifters, all new bearings, polished crankshaft, and now I get
to
put it together. The block and the head are from two different 85's so
they
go together nicely. I just got an '87 4cyl, and all it needed was an
injector to make it run.
Silly me, I only checked the Haynes manual when it came to replacing
injectors, and it only mentioned one type of throttle body. There was no
mention anywhere that the '87 throttle body is COMPLETELY different than
the
'85, with a different injector. The good news is that the new one's
injector is SOOOO easy to replace. It's a 2 minute job, and that includes
the time it takes to take the lid off the air cleaner. But it worries me
that it's completely different, and there was no documentation anywhere
that
stated it would be different.
Is the tech 4's injector really so different? Or is there a chance that
this
'87 in very nice shape has an aftermarket TBI? The new injector is a bit
smaller than the old one.
John
