My wife's 93 Olds Cutlass Sierra runs like new, doesn't burn any oil but
seems to need a 3 way new catalytic converter every 2 years when
it again fails AirCare (www.aircare.ca/) emissions testing for Nitrous
Oxide emissions, other readings are very good.
This model doesn't seem to have an EGR valve, just a 3way Cat., the
electronic ignition doesn't seem to be adjustable.
After failing AirCare in April we had a new NAPA Cat. installed and
reinsured for the maximum allowable 3 months, during that time the
car traveled 1000 kilometers (@[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Miles) and after changing oil it
again failed AirCare for Nitrous Oxide. The intake plenum was purged,
and oil changed, it again failed with slightly lower numbers but still
30%
over the maximum allowable.
The local AirCare certified shop wants to put in a bigger Cat. and do
an overnight air intake solvent purge.
the present Cat. is the right model according to NAPA, the one that failed
before that was a Walker, again the recommended size.
Any ideas what is the reason for the recurring NOX failures on this model?
