I know you guys look at regular cars as parts-to-be-used-elsewhere!
I need some education on the more recent (Um.. 1980 on, maybe)
families of transverse-engine / transaxle cars. I know a little about
the early 90's GM units.
I'm particularly interested in the units that mount on a sub-frame or
"Clip".
Can you point to a quick survey of typical model series from Chrysler,
Toyota, Honda, and Ford?? Only interested in the drive train...
Why?? I am going to work on an approach to use this type of engine
and drive train in DIY Marine applications. I have built a couple of
power boats with V-8 engines, and converted auto transmissions, or (in
the last one) a "Vee-Drive". I DO know about all the "Pitfalls" of
Auto-VS-Marine engines, derating, etc etc.
The basic idea is to lock up the differential and drive a propeller
shaft or outdrive unit from one axle with its CV joints intact. I know
you need thrust bearings etc etc.
TWO units positioned opposite ends out give two counter-rotating
shafts for a two-engine boat.
Maybe.
Can you help me learn about the different families of cars with this
configuration?? Sorry, I've had more conventional old cars and
trucks!
Any suggestions, pointers appreciated. Any other group to ask??
