Not quite true, I know many people who have made one of "kit" cars and 
got them registered in Australia although it is getting more difficult 
or I should say more expensive mainly due to the cost of buying a very 
late model engine that complies with current emission rules.

Westfield, PRB, Elfin, Leitch from NZ, Nota and Puma to name just a few.
