Car-Guy Trivia (answers are later in this email)

1) We have had quite a few questions about Henry Ford over the years we
have
been doing this. Well, here comes another one. One of the byproducts from
producing his cars was tons of sawdust and wood chips from his mills.
Remember, car bodies had a lot of wood in them back them. What did ol'
Henry
do with all this?

2) To continue our Movie Cars questions:

A) In "Fast & Furious", how much horsepower did the wheel-standing black
Dodge Charger have that Vin Diesel drove?

B) What did TV Detective Honey West drive?

3) Corvette ran in the 2003 Le Mans, and they did very well. What were the

numbers of the two Corvettes, and what was the significance of the two
numbers?

4) What make of car was Al Capone's favorite bullet-proof car?

5) He was educated to be a banker. But he soon found this was not his
calling. His fellow countrymen said he was a 'Stroker', a guy always out
to
make a fast buck. He sold cars and carpets on the side of the road to get
himself started in racing. He ran in Formula Ford, Formula Two, and had a
test drive in Formula One. And now he is a team leader in Formula One.
Over
the years, he has had under his guidance a 'Who's Who' of great and near
great F1 drivers: Alesi, Barrachello, Brundle, Fisichella, Frentzen,
Heidfeld, Herbert, Damon Hill, Mansell, Senna, Trulli, Zanardi, and both
Schumachers. And for fun, he plays a guitar in a rock band.

Who is this guy?

--- Retreads ---

These last three questions are from over two years ago. If you remember
them
from before, consider this a memory test.

6) For you British Iron guys: MG-TC, MG-TD . . . MG-TF. What happened in
between?

7) Most car guys are into one form of racing or another: NHRA, SCCA, IMSA,

CART, IRL, VSCCA, NASCAR, F1, D1, Rallying, Autocrossing, maybe just Stop
Light Grand Prix. But what car won the first motor race?

8) What was the only American cop car to produce 1 Brake Horse Power per
cubic inch?

Replicarz
166 Spruce Street

Rutland, VT 05701

When we started, we contacted many of the same retailers that you buy from

yourselves; most of them also wholesale. Within a year, we found Replicarz

was the best of the bunch. They have the best selection at fair prices. We

never, I repeat, never had a problem with damaged items, invoices, prices,

or any other area dealing with them. As a friend of all of you and of
Replicarz, I am happy to suggest you check these guys out. You won't be
sorry.

For you British Iron guys, the best I found was from Triple-C.com. That
was
where I found most of my Brit Stuff, other than videos and posters.

For those of you interested in the large glass cases that we had, we
bought
them from:

Fixtures Plus

4509 Rhode Island Avenue

Brentwood, MD 20722

Mon - Fri 9:00 - 5:00, Sat 10:00 - 4:00

Phone: 301-699-5520

The owner's name is Mark.

It is a used fixture place on Rt. 1, south of Maryland University. If you
are serious, it is worth a ride down there to see what they have. You may
find a used display case for a couple hundred bucks that will fit your
needs
just right. Or you can buy a case just like the one you know from our
shop,
same price that I quoted you.

But, once in a while, a shop here at Savage Mill will have a used case for

not too much money. When that happens, I will mention it in Road Chatter.

Other than that, if you have any questions, we still have the same phone
number and email address.

Formula One

Bernie has apparently done just what he wanted. Four races in, and the red

cars haven't won yet. Surprisingly, the top team so far is Renault. Quite
a
jump for them, four wins out of four. Have they EVER done that well? As a
matter of fact, yes, they were the engine to have for a few years. In
1977,
while others were running non-turbo 3.0 engines, Renault jumped into F1
with
a turbo 1.5. They got their first win in '79. In '81, they brought in
Prost,
who almost gave them the championship in '83. At the end of '84, Renault
quit as a team. But they did very well in the following years as a
supplier,
giving McLaren the constructor's championship in '92, then to Williams in
'93
& '94, to Benetton and a young Michael Schumacher in '95, and back to
Williams in '96 & '97.

CBS is airing three more F1 races this year; they are tape delayed except
the Canadian race. Speed Channel will air the rest at real-time and repeat

as a tape delay. The next race will be on CBS. This is good for F1 in the
US; too bad they don't use the Speed Channel announcers.

Bits and Pieces

Brent is a quiet young guy that was a regular customer of ours. Recently,
a
couple of our customers told us that he has a business of his own
detailing
cars. Based on their recommendation, and the nice guy and true Car-Guy he
is, I would expect him to be great at this, his one-man business:

Select Auto Detailing

- Services Starting at $25

Former U.S. Secretary of State, General Colin Powell, will be driving a
Corvette convertible pace car, pacing this year's Indianapolis 500. After
a
couple gulf wars and serving under two presidents, leading a pack of 200
MPH
Type A's should be a walk in the park for him.

We all get lists of one kind or another in the e-mail almost daily. This
is
from a group of sayings by The Dali Lhama. I think a few team owners have
learned this lesson well. Penske, Smokey Yunick, and a few other names
come
to mind:

-Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.

Car-Guy Trivia Answers

1) Henry Ford packaged the leftover sawdust and wood chips from his
sawmills
into burnable chips, marketing them as Ford Charcoal. The name was later
changed to Kingsford. From this grew the modern day charcoal briquettes.
The
next time you Chevy Guys are flipping burgers out on the deck, you can
thank
Henry Ford.

(Thanks to our friend Jeff for this one.)

2) A) How much horsepower did the black Charger have that Vin Diesel
drove?

It had "900 Horsepower of Detroit Muscle"

(Thanks to our friend Steve R.)

B) TV Detective Honey West drove a white Cobra 289 Automatic!

3) The 2003 Le Mans Corvettes ran numbers 50 and 53. The number 50 was for

Corvette's fiftieth anniversary, and number 53 was for 1953, the first
model
year the Corvette was produced.

(Thanks to our friend Patrick U.)

4) Al Capone's favorite bullet-proof car was a Cadillac.

5) If you caught his interview on Wind Tunnel, than you know the 'Stroker'

is Eddie Jordan.

--- Retreads ---

6) There was no MG-TE. Considering the Brit's accent of adding an 'H' to
words starting with a vowel, it was decided that TE sounded much too much
like "Tee Hee". Honest!

(From "The T-Series MG" by Graham Robson, sent to us by our friend Michael

B., VSCCA, SVRA, SCCA.)

7) The world's first recorded auto race was between a German Mercedes Benz

and a French Panhard, The Panhard won. Maybe it's time Mercedes asked for
a
re-match.

(Thanks again to our friend Michael B., VSCCA, SVRA, SCCA.)

8) One Brake Horse Power per cubic inch in a Cop Car? Not Ford, not MOPAR;

Chevy did it with their 290 Horsepower, 283 ci V8; their 350 HP 348 ci V8;

and their 425 HP 409 V8.
(From Ford Police Cars 1937-1997 by Edwin Sanow.)

We try to choose these trivia questions from several groups and still be
interesting. This month, we have a millionaire's wood chips, a movie
hunk's
Charger, a TV chick's Cobra, a couple Corvettes, a gangster's Caddy, an
old
rivalry, fast Cop Cars, an F1 guitar player, and a giggling MG. Not too
bad.
