FWIW, my '74 260Z had a short between the negative side of the
coil and the (factory) tach. Disconnected the tach, no problems
since. I also thought distributor and/or electronic ignition problems
and went so far as to put a replacement Mallory Unilite distributor
in it in an attempt to rectify the problem but I still had the same
(admittedly intermittent) problem until I stumbled upon the tach wire
short thing.
