IIRC, the owners' manuals recommend that the A/C be run a minimum of
15 minutes a month. I cannot see the advantage of not allowing the
control of its use by the driver. My old Pathfinder's A/C can be
turned on and off with the punch of a button on the dash; I usually
shut it down a couple of minutes before arrival at my destination to
help me acclimate. I often use it to clear windows when the engine has
not yet warmed the coolant sufficiently, but that is usually only five
minutes from the start of the vehicle. It would not make sense to shut
off the ignition and restart, unless at a long traffic light or some
such.
