No, it isn't even close. It is a related to an Opel designed (as is the
Saturn Aura). I am surprised you think the Monaro and Malibu are related.
The Monaro is rear wheel drive with a longitudinal engine, the Malibu is
front wheel drive with a transverse front engine.
Maybe you are thinking of the recently discontinued Pontiac GTO or the new
Pontiac G8. Both of these are Australian built rear wheel drive sedans.
