93 Grand Am - tensioner pulley bolt - 2 types??? What's up with that?

by "DB" <x@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Oct 25, 2008 at 01:19 PM

The tensioner pulley bolt I have on my 93 Grand Am (6 cyl, 3.3L) is
different from the one offered by the dealer. They both have the same
left-hand thread size and diameter, but the one I have has an 18mm hex
head
and a half dollar size washer like flare which partially covers the
pulley.
The one the dealer has now has a 15mm hex head and only a tiny dime size
washer like flare. For the purpose it's used for, I feel an 18mm hex is
necessary. I'm replacing due to wear on the head. Why does this
difference
exist?? Drives me crazy! DB
