Hi all,
I've been told that the front shocks on my 944 are "shot" - it is a
little bouncy. PO replaced fronts with Gabriels just before purchase
back in early '04. They appear to be complete strut units, HOWEVER the
only replacements that appear to be available are either Boge or KYB and
I haven't been impressed with the longevity of either brand (nor the
Gabriels that lasted only 3 years.) I would like, if possible, to use
Bilsteins as I already have Bilstein HD's on the rear. Bilstein does
not list a front unit for my car but they do list an insert for the
earlier, replaceable-cartridge type struts. My question is this; could
I find a used pair of 85.5-86 struts, and just put the Bilstein
cartridges in them and swap my springs, etc. onto them and end up with a
good setup, or is there a physical difference between those and the
87-88 struts that would make this not work?
