I have a 1984 944 that I purchased new. Last year the sunroof stopped
working. After removing the motor assembly, I discovered that the
microswitch cam (attached to the end of the cable) had slipped past
the stop and came out of the track. I corrected this problem and
reassembled the mechanism. In order to figure out how the thing
works, I removed the asssembly from the cable and had it on my
workbench for about a week.
After reattaching the mechanism to the cable, and reinstalling the
system back in the car, the sunroof still does not work. However, the
motor now turns when the console switch is operated (the microswitches
are working correctly now).
What I believe my problem to be is that the motor gear is not meshing
with the cable. There is an opening in the metal tube that surrounds
the cable where the gear should fit when the cable is mounted in the
plastic gear housing. I see no way to hold that opening in the right
place when I attach it to the plastic housing. Should there be a key
on the metal tube that may have broken off? I am trying not to have
to replace the entire cable if possible.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
