over the rear hatch, as I recall - I don't have a 944 here to double check

If my memory serves and there are some small vent holes near the hatch,
then
the above speculation is correct - they could also be associated with
reducing/eliminating condensation in the body interior - but for sure they
have nothing to do with any of the car mechanical systems.
by the way, I have a set of these to get rid of if anyone needs them -
