this does not sound right - - if you get too  much pressure it will 
pressurize the crank case - the covers on the back of the balance shafts
can 
move - but all they will do is make an oil leak -  you could have a bad
air 
flow meter, or a bad connection to the AFM - there is an excellent article

on the web showing how to test the AFM - your car is different from the 
newer ones - my guess is that you either have no signal from the AFM or a 
fairly significant air leak, probably in the J tube.
