The main things that you could do wrong are have the inner the wrong way
around, or have
the inner one slot out (as I remember it, the slots aren't parallel, and
the two slots
containing one ball should be sloping the opposite way.
If you've put everything together correctly, both joints should have
something like an
inch of longitudinal movement, and at the extremes of this movement I
wouldn't expect the
joint to be able to bent, but in the middle part of the range they should
bend easily. I
suppose if you're holding the shaft vertically, you could easily have both
joints fully
extended or compressed. Try lying it on the floor, moving each joint into
the middle of
its sliding range, and try again.
(Its a while since I've had a 928 CV apart, so its a bit of a distant
memory.)
