64 6cyl

by "Wizard of Oz" <jpblanc@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Mar 23, 2008 at 04:24 AM

I pulled the head of the OHV engine today as the start of the rebuild and
to
my surprise the inside of the engine is in great shape. I can still see
the
tops of the pistons, they are not carboned up, the valves are also clean
and
no serious carbon in the combustion chambers. There is a small amount of
carbon build up at the top of the bore but it does not feel like a ridge.
It
appears to be fine for just rings and bearings.

I pulled this engine out of a 62 and read in the log book that a new
engine
was installed at some time. I thought it was a 63 because of the full flow

and the way the PCV set up was and did not give it much thought until
today
when looking for piston rings and saw the engine numbers in the Stude.
Int.
catalogue. The engine number is S278761 which makes it a 64.

Now I will have to tear down the engine to find out for sure what I have
before I order any parts.

If any one knows any thing special about the 64's that I need to look out
for I would appreciate it.

Wiz.
