I had a '41 commander in High School ( in the late 70's). While I regret 
not keeping the aftermarket "car bed" ( different front seat back that 
would remove and have legs so it could be spanned between from and back 
seats), I can confirm that the conventional back seat had adequate space 
for more than one person - more easily "stacked" than side by side.
