Hello all! Hopefully someone could give me a good pointer on this:
I recently had a new water pump installed on my 1996 ford probe gt
after the car heated up on the way to work. Now, the car did not have
a chance to overheat too much as I am only about 15 miles away from
work and it still had quite a bit of coolant left in the system..
but oh well, they replaced the pump and now I'm having an issue where
the car is dumping coolant through the overflow tank... Usually after
driving for about 30 minutes and well after the car has come up to
running temperature. I do have an idiot light coming on (which I
still have to take to see what it is, but I'll be doing that today)
Now the odd things are this:
1.- The temperature gauge does not fluctuate nor does it show that the
car is overheating, even after driving for an hour or so...
2.- It doesn't dump the antifreeze until about 2-3 minutes after
shutting down the engine... then I start to hear the coolant
circulating through the radiator, then the overflow rises and it dumps
the fluid.
The garage that I had the service done in has washed their hands
saying that could not be caused by anything they did.. Some of the
suggestions I have been given are:
1.- bad radiator caps (this sucker has 2? which I found strange)
2.- thermostat is bad and needs replacement
3.- possible head gasket blown or cracked heads...
I want to get some 2 and 3rd opinions before I take it back to the
shop.. Your help is greatly appreciated..
