The trick there is to use a Melling high volume pump with the beefed
up drive shaft, and it'll get you possibly another 50K miles before
the rockers start drying up.  Another sure sign of worn out cam
bearings on an FE is dry rockers/valve stems.  Don't forget to look
for a missing welch plug in that rifle that comes from the filter,
too...very common in high milers.  Pull the distributor and it's right
there.  Putting a motor drive on the oil pump shaft will show oil
squirting out where it shouldn't.
