If I recall correctly, some years ago, I R&R-ed the sender in my '68
Barracuda w/o having to drop the fuel tank.  I sup****ted the car such that
the rearend was hanging down.  I first disconnected the lower ends of the
shock absorbers to allow the leaf springs to fully relax.  The
sender/pickup
went out/in above the axle housing.  If all you need to do is replace the
sender/pickup, this may save you some effort.
