When you *do* find one, make sure to "dial it in" to the back of the
engine.
This ensures that the drive pinion (aka input shaft) of the transmission
is
on-center with the engine's crankshaft. I learned the hard way, when I
installed a safety bellhousing on my '68 340-S bracket racer. In short
order, I had a wasted front bearing on my A833.
My machinist explained that as engines (that were intended to have a
stick****ft behind them) were coming down the production line, a
bellhousing
was attached, and the large hole in the bellhousing was then honed
on-center
with the crankshaft. That made every engine-bellhousing a bastard-fit,
and
you can't guarantee a different (even same PN) bellhousing will fit
correctly. I believe the limit is ±0.008". Lakewood has offset dowel
pins:
0.000" Offset (Stock) 15945
0.007" Offset 15950
0.014" Offset 15960
0.021" Offset 15970
or
"EZ-Adjustable Dowel Pins":
0.007" Offset 15957
0.014" Offset 15954
0.021" Offset 15951
You'll also need a pilot bu****ng to sup****t the forward end of the
transmission drive pinion (OEM was oilite-bronze.) The hole in the rear
of
the crankshaft was only roughed-in -- it *may* need to be honed to size.
IIRC, I understand someone makes an aftermarket bearing that doesn't
require
doing anything to the crankshaft.
