Compression ratio advise

by "Julian" <jps@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Oct 13, 2007 at 12:22 PM

I'm starting to plan rebuilding my 440 to 500cid, and I'm trying to get a
feel for the best compression ratio to use. I'm aiming for around 500
bhp/torque and the vehicle must run well of regular pump gas.

I'm in the UK and it appears that regular fuel is 95RON and super is
98RON.
(minimum)

From the 500cid stroker table at: http://www.440source.com/strokerkits.htm
with 84cc heads (Edelbrock or 440's own new Stealth head) and 88cc heads
(Edelbrock) with bores +30 thou I can have 10.85 or 10.48 (flat top.) Or
9.28 or 9.01 (dish)

I quite fancy working with 84cc heads because it keeps my options open if
and when 440source start to sell their own heads. So do you think 10.85 is

OK with 95 or 98 octane or is it too much? I don't want to end up running
retarded ignition to stop pinking (and kill the power:-( )

What do you all use for street spec?

Thanks Julian.
