After marking the position of the housing and the rotor ... :-) And
don't move the crank while the distributor is out!
I wouldn't replace the points, rotor, cap, wires, coil, and plugs
(although I'd clean the plugs) until I at least tried to get the engine
running.
Have a good fire extinguisher handy, and lots of forced ventilation as
there will be a big cloud of blue smoke.
Then consider going over to electronic ignition (MP kit is fine for the
street), but keep the original parts in a safe place.
