Also, if you're running a mechanical fuel pump, the "carbonator" will be
bone-dry when you first attempt to start it.  I like to tem****arily plumb
an
electric fuel pump in, to fill the carb's fuel bowls, and then remove it
before starting the engine.  Since you plan on draining the fuel tank, you
can do that just before priming the carb.  Another good thing to check are
all the rubber hoses -- replace any that appear dry-rotted or otherwise
damaged.
