Can't say about the Accord but on the UK Civic (driver on right) of that
age 
there's a diagnostic ****t on the left of the car underneath the dash just 
tucked up to the left of the glove box.
If I recall there are two connectors - including a 2 pin one you short out

to persuade the engine management to flash out a fault code on the
dashboard 
light.
