If you can find a GOOD machine shop you would be much better off
having your existing engine rebuilt. The discount rebuilt engines
places tend to use the cheapest everything they can get and let
things go at tolerances that a good machine shop wouldnt dream of. I
have found the best way to find a good machine shop is to go to the
local racetrac and ask some of the guys there who they use. You will
pay a bit more but have a much better product in the end.
'Course I do have to ask... Is a '89 Cressida really worth putting a
rebuilt engine and transmission in? Those are far enough down the
depreciation chain that you should be able to get a low mileage
replacement for half the cost of the engine/trans rebuild.
