I have purchased a 200-4r from a local transmission/engine shop here
in Norway. This 200-4r was rebuilt and had hardened stator support, 10
vane pump and TCI shift kit. I installed the transmission in my 1965
Belair with a new TCI 1600-1800rpm stall converter and B&M lockup kit.
The transmission vent from 1st gear to 4th gear in just seconds, so
from 20mph it was in 4th gear. If I select 3rd gear it act the same up
to 3rd gear. It was not possible to get the transmission to downshift
if the speed was over 20mph. I had TV cable bracket and TV cable angle
correction bracket from TCI, but no adjustment helped.
I checked the TV valve for proper operation, this was ok. Then I
changed the valve body wit all the valves (from another 200-4r). Then
the shift kit was removed and a Trans-go kit was installed instead,
but nothing helped. The transmission was then removed from my car and
disassembled. All parts was checked again and a new pressure regulator
was installed to assure correct oil pressure. Two clutches was also
replaced because all the testing had result in burning them.
I have now tested the transmission again in a transmission workshop
which have a test rig. The test show a perfect oil pressure and flow,
but the operator could not get the transmission to downshift. If he
pulled the TV-cable fully keeping the transmission under 1500-1700rpm
it downshift, but more rpm it geared up in 4th still if the pressure
with pulled TV cable was correct.
I wander what to do with this transmission now. Maybe someone can give
me a advice? What can be wrong?
I have bought the shop manual and wander if I should inspect the
transmission myself. I am a aircraft mechanic working with repair and
overhauling of engines for large helicopters here in Norway, so I have
all the facilities for cleaning and inspection here at my work. I have
overhauled a thm350 one year ago and this transmission is working
perfect (it is installed in my car).
Thanks.
