Thermometer Wiring
Don't be confused, Comp stands for Compass, not Computer. This is NOT
a Trip Computer. Just a Compass and outside temp gauge.
I took the pin-out posted above and associated colors and compared to
two 1990-3 XJ systems I pulled from a salvage. I did a little more
research and added comments on each pin.
If you wish to take one of these consoles from a salvage and add to
your XJ, you will be better off to get as much wiring harness as
possible. However, don't worry if it gets too strung out under the
dash. Frankly, if I had been running Jeep in 1989-90 I'd have fired a
bunch of engineers! Wow, some of those wires ran all over the place.
They should have charged $1000 for the compass option!!
In any case, if you just want the temp and compass to come on with the
key, you won't need the dash lights and tail light wires, just nc
them. However, if you want the display to dim like the digital clock,
then you will need both.
If you want the Temp to work, you will need the thermistor mount which
is under the front bumper. I suggest you get the sensor, mount,
connector and a good piece of the wiring. I plan to use about a foot
of the factory wire and run my own from there.

lamps)
3 P/Gn (Bu/Bk) outside temp 1 (be sure these two wires don't connect
to anything except the thermistor)
4 P/Bu (Gy/P) outside temp 2
5 nc
6 Bu/Bk (Bu/Bn) Dash Dimmer (varies with dash lamps)
7 O/Bk Tail Lights (tells bright control to us dash lamp wire)
a P Dome Light Power (standard Pink)
b P Dome Light Power (standard Pink - these two Pink wires are tied
together in my harness)
c Bk Dome Light Ground (current return for Dome lamps)

e Bk/Gn - gnd BLACK/GREEN (current return for Compass Temp Cir
Board)
f nc
2-a-b-c pass-thru the circuit board and connect to the dome light
assemblies.
Front dome light switches are "on" or "off". Rear dome light switches
are "on" or "door"
