Sounds like you found the problem, but there is one other thing to watch
for.  A lot of those plugs (on the wire) have a center contact that is
spring loaded and incor****ates both a fuse and a switch inside.  A lot of
times they don't work in one lighter or another because you just haven't
pushed them in firmly enough to close the switch.  I have a couple like
that - the worst being the wife's cell phone charger.
