OK, got a closer look today. The vacuum lines that connect to the vent
control switch look OK. When I slide the control to the right from the
"Floor only" to "floor/defrost", I can hear a vacuum leak sound that
lasts a second or two.
Another thing I discovered is somewhat of a workaround. If I slide the
control all the way to the left (off), and turn the fan control to low,
then slide it over to the right, the air flows through the wind****eld
vent normally. this continues as I move the fan to the ext highest
speed, but when i go to the 3rd, you can hear a vent door slam shut (I
guessing that's what it is) and the whistling sound of trapped air
resumes, as well and almost no air flow from the wind****eld vent.
Has anyone run into something like that before? I'd like to take a look
at the other end of those vacuum lines, but it appears I would have to
remove the entire dash to do that, and I haven't worked up the guts for
that yet.
