It would really help if you had the codes set when the check light came on

that will likely pinpoint the problem. If cycling the key
on-off-on-off-on
doesn't get the code displayed, go to your parts store - most have code
readers they will let you use. Best guess is a bad Crank Position Sensor
(CPS), but check the codes before throwing money at the problem. CPS is a
common issue with the 4.0 and a pretty simple fix.
