Front Trailing Arm Bracket

Folks,

My mechanic, the one who just solved the Death Wobble problem I've had 
with my '97 Wrangler, tells me that the front trailing arm bracket is 
about to fail. He says he can see through it and then tells me not to 
drive anywhere far. He puts me in touch with a local welder who looked 
at it this morning and says he will fix it for $800 and then told me to 
go slow and don't hit any potholes but my work is 50 miles away down the 
interstate...

I'm thinking, if it fails, odds are I will die in a horrible crash.

Is $800 about right? It sounds really expensive.

If it helps, I live in the Hudson Highlands just north of NYC.

Any thoughts?
