CLutch Interlock Problems

by dilbongo@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Jun 3, 2008 at 10:29 AM

I am having problems with my clutch interlock switch (located on the
push rod that goes from the clutch pedal to the firewall) on my 97
Wrangler TJ.

A few months ago while I was driving, my shoelace wrapped around the
pedal somehow and I had to pull my shoe up hard in order to not rear
end the semi in front of me. As a result, the push rod became
dislodged from the firewall, which I fixed.

Since then, the car has had serious problems starting. At first I
just had to play with how far I pressed the pedal in when starting.
Then, I had to press the petal fast in and it would start. Now, I
have to reach under the pedal with one hand and move the sensor
towards the driver with one hand and turn the key with the other.
This works perfectly every time, but is insanely inconvenient.

A friend who does a ton of off roading says there are some guys in his
club who remove a fuse, which completely disables the switch. This
would be ideal for me as no bone yards in town ever have jeeps and the
dealer wants 180$ for a new one.

The problem is I cannot figure out which fuse it is or if I need to
put a fuse in or take one out. I have found very few posts on the
internet, and all of them talk about the fact that it can be done, not
how to do it. I don't know if it is a fuse in the glove box or one
under the hood. I don't know if I need to put one in or take one
out. I can't find a full wiring diagram anywhere.

Please - If anyone can help I would GREATLY appreciate it.
