You need to read your owners manual, it will have tranny and t-case
specific directions for you.

In my case, I need to have the tranny in gear and the t-case in neutral
and then stop every couple hundred miles to run the engine, still in
gear to lube up the t-case bearings if my back driveshaft is turning.
This wouldn't change if flat towed or dolly towed.

If in doubt, you can simply crawl under and unbolt the rear driveshaft
and tie it up out of the way for the tow, then it freewheels.
