Yep - also in many, the RPM/HP/torque combination (by design) simply
does not have the HP or Torque to red-line the tacho (in top gear) but
the next lower gear does. When I worked for IHC (truck assemply
division) Canada, (for 90 days) they mistakenly installed the wrong
diffs in a number of them. The ratios theoretically would give them a
top speed of 96 MPH. Of course there was not enough HP available, even
if the owners were happy with that. The had to put new diffs in about
20 prime movers.
