No it ain't.
Diesel engines get more of an internal hiding than any SI engine could
hope
to, which is precisely why diesel engine components are vastly heavier and
more solid than those of your average SI engine.

Believe me, I wouldn't ever think about it :)

The way the engine works might, but the fuel it burns with all else being
equal doesn't do diddly.

Um, yeah actually.
Diesels are fussier about fuel on average than a petrol engine, and
they'll
knock themselves to death pretty quickly if the mix isn't right. Water is
also a big problem for diesels in that a small amount will shut your
average
diesel down completely and cause the entire fuel system to need priming
whereas it'll just make your average SI engine run rough.

Like any other engine.

No, it already stinks to the bejesus.

Is it worth the hassle? No :)

We know.
However, I'd add that given your mental state and hatred for some things
that are water off a duck's back for most people, it'd be faior to assume
that your hatred for SI engines is a *tad* over done.

That's a pretty big call considering I never mentioned any particular V8.
You're right though. One would certainly cost more money, make more noise
and smell *way* worse than any V8 that I can think of.

I think that may be a lot of your troubles. You ain't seen it, but believe
it to be true anyway.
