It can do.

Without using the clutch you're not unloading the input shaft from the 
engine, so unless you use the throttle to match the engine speed to that
of 
the gear you're trying to pop the box into you're giving the synchro 
assemblies a hell of a hard time. Match the revs to the drivetrain and
it'll 
pop in no problems at all. Don't match and you'll wear out the cones as 
quick as if they were made of ice cream.
