OK, time for a gripe. I don't expect much of a response but please allow me
to vent anyhow.
I'm in the market for a new car and am starting to get annoyed with some
of
the marketing that goes with the industry.
I've set a budget, done my research, identified a few contenders BUT then
they all screw that up with illogical restrictions on option choices
AND/OR
the new model "just around the corner" (which apparently takes half a year
to turn).
What is it with the "That option isn't available on this model, only on
the
other body styles/specs can have it"?
FFS if you offer an option on a sedan (for example) then why can't you get
it on the hatch or wagon version? I can appreciate some optional items
aren't interchangable but otherwise if I'm willing to buy it then why
can't
I have it? If I want it that bad I'll specially order it and wait...but
no,
dealers don't like that (delayed sale). Who is doing the market research
that determines one specific model variant can't have the same option as
the
rest of the range?
Perhaps it's my timing but, why do they seriously advertise the crap out
of
the new model months before it's available? Building a little hype is one
thing but I ain't going to buy the old model if the new one is just around
the corner. The marketing period is way too long. Release the bastard now
and I'll buy it, or I'm off to another manufacturer!
One car on my shortlist is available in with my preference for engine and
transmission BUT the new model won't have either. In any case, I can't get
the leather option in that version (but all the other variants do) and
then
I'd still have to wait months before it's released. Note that "released"
and
"in the showrooms" are generally mutually exclusive terms. Arrgh!
Another shortlisted car has it's price announced, lots of glowing press,
but
the manufacturer refuses (or simply has no idea) when it will be
available.
If you can't deliver on the hype you're wasting marketing dollars,
meanwhile
I'll go elsewhere.
A third car, probably outside my budget, is getting lots of hype. The
manufacturer is hinting at some desirable features (to me) but won't
confirm any pricing, availability, or the hinted at features. Teasing me
isn't going to make me wait several more months either.
I understand the difficulties with design, manufacturing, marketing, and
keeping in front of the competition but this is getting frustrating. I
appreciate new models are always "just around the corner" but the drawn
out
marketing period isn't going to improve the sales figures for unavailble
models.
