Actually I was just thinking about that statement and your right, there is
a
difference between your Prius and the electric vehicle mentioned in the
article. The Car designed and built by the South Australian University was
designed from the ground up as a city commuter, designed to carry two
people, because as they said, most commutes have no more than two people
anyway, designed with a usable range of 150 kilometers and a top speed of
120kph using battery power only, something the Prius can only ever dream
of
doing :-)
On the other hand we have the Prius, designed to be an economical vehicle
to
run, unfortunately it has been overtaken by lots of other manufacturers in
just about all areas where it was once alone, It is no longer the most
economical city car, and it is now in second place behind a diesel for CO2
emissions (and that really got to sting all those who bought the thing so
they could feel smug and superior because they were doing something for
the
environment) the only area's that it still rules are the amount of non
renewable resources needed to manufacture (A V8 Mercedes is the most
environmentally friendly car to manufacture, run and eventually re-cycle,
ahead of the Prius) and the amount of people who buy them and immediately
feel that they can look down their noses at the rest of the driving
population.
So keep your slow, complicated, not so environmentally friendly smug
mobile,
and I will have one of those for City driving and a VW Polo diesel for
everything else, and I bet that I will be leaps and bounds ahead in the
Enviro savior stakes than you :-)
