The problem being that it usually takes a long time to pay a $1,000
fine from inside the slammer... which, contrary to popular opinion, is
where the perps usually end up (repeat offenders at any rate).  :)

It's some years ago when it happened, but some lowlife once stole a
radiator core off my old man...  which he removed from the tractor it
was fitted to with an axe.  The thief sold it to a scrap metal dealer,
who had a record of his car registration number (a legal requirement
apparently) so the cops had no trouble catching him. He was also a
repeat offender.

The perp earned himself nine months in the can for that particular
heist.  The old man even got the radiator core back... even if it was
way beyond repair!
