Two cars with same name in same market?

It's my understanding that two cars cannot have the same name in the same 
market, right?  One recent US example I can think of though, is the
Lincoln 
Continental and Bentley Continental.  How did they get away with that? 
I'm 
pretty sure the Lincoln name goes back further, although the car was 
discontinued in 2002.  Any ideas?
