Cell reversal can happen, and is is a method I've explained on a
battery that
won't play the game however needs to when you need it too. Quick
reverse
charging so it picks up the game, then will charge normally at it's
normal
polarity.

A battery that will no longer draw current either polarity from the
charger -
toss it, f**ked. Batteries that are a little confused because they
were totally
discharged can be recovered if willing to draw current in the reverse
direction.
If they are discharged beyond the point of being discharged won't draw
current either way around.

You will not manage to produce a totally functional lead acid battery
with it's
polarity the other way around with a charger. The thing will heat up,
plates
bend and possibly fall apart. I wasn't really interested in the
destruction
because I wanted my mix of H2 and O2 for exploding balloons :-) on old
batteries.
