Car battery?

Dead flat but otherwise serviceable battery. Hook up charger wrong way 
around.

Battery boiled itself to death, charger nearly went into meltdown and
cooked 
itself... almost terminally.

Battery completely ****ed, reads -0.2V and has lost half it's water. No 
longer takes a charge after topping back up.

Exact same results as the one that was done at work a couple of years ago,

with the exception that the charger suffered a terminal transformer
failure 
that time as well.
