Noddy, your ignorance of LPG supply is about the same as your lack of
knowledge of the Taxi industry,
perhaps you are just a bit Melbournecentric. Australia is almost self
sufficient with LPG, Boral are honouring a long term contract for the
supply
of LPG from Indonesia, that still has a year or two to run, this gas is
used
in Brisbane and Sydney mostly for small cylinder fills , but now and then
some of this finds its way to the automotive supply.
My experience as a gas user goes back to the mid 70's when Boral ran a
trial
with 50 Sydney taxies, one was mine, they did the conversion for free, on
the proviso of a 12 month trial, there were only 2 fill points in Sydney
at
that time, and from memory I think the gas cost about 8c a litre, less
than
a third the cost of petrol anyway.
In those days the average cab, (70% Holden 30% Ford ) did about 150 K P/A,
during the trial we all had problems with Valve guides and valve seats,
this
problem was solved to some extent by running the cab on petrol with a fair
amount of upper cylinder lubricant added, for one or two days per week.
Nowadays of course, the raw gas from the pump is a lot cleaner, and
metallurgy has improved the suitability of guides and seats to the point
where they are ALMOST impervious to the exclusive use of LPG,but not
quite,
in a very high mileage vehicle like a cab (some 200K P/A these days) it is
still useful to give the guides all the help you can, hence the use of HPR
,
which does not have any detergents to clean sludge in petrol engines
(caused
by blow by) but it does have a quality that allows a very small amount of
mist to lube the guides.
So noddy please pull your head out of your arse, and dont think you know
it
all.
