Agree enitrely, but I still usually trade in for time and convenience
reasons, although not always. Buying used in particular - new not so much
'cos margins are slimmer -  you can often negotiate a discount on a no
trade sale that equals what they offered for the trade in (with no
discount) so *any* private sale price you get is straight profit... but
then there's the procession of no shows, timewasters and
ridiculous/abusive offers from potential buyers.

If you *are* trading and you're buying both newies around the same time,
suggest you ebay the XF unregistered and get valuations on both cars from
both dealers - maybe swapping the trades could prove more profitable,
maybe not, but it costs nothing to find out. Cheers
