Guy over the road from me in Granville about 20 years ago had *14* P76,
mostly V8s. Agre that the 4.4 was a pretty reliable engine and IMO a big
improvement on teh original Buick/Rover 3.5, especially in the
heads/carbs/manifolding dept., *but* many of the 14 had recalcitrant
electrics, dodgy switchgear, self destructing trim and niggly quality
control problems.
OOTH, there is a cream 300+K Km V8 example on LPG doing daily drive duty,
including a lot of towing, around Sydney and much of the rest of the
state, which is pretty well totally reliable and has been for most of its
life; probably due to regular maintenance, a fair bit of fettling and some
strategic mods. It's rescued some much more highly regarded machinery in
its time. Sounds great too.
There used to be a brown (with a cream vinyl roof), top spec V8 manual
with some seriously efficient suspension work around the Central Coast,
which for a few years was probably the fastest point to point car I'd ever
travelled any distance in - here or o/s. Comfy too! Cheers
