Things have been moving fast and I have been unable to keep up for
various reasons.  Lyn in the Archer and Ray and Moumou in the Duchess
moved right on down to Christmas Island - then the next day went down
to Pago Pago.  Ray gave Lyn a one hour start as usual and all was
plugging along happily with Ray catching Lyn up for a half way
overtake.  About halfway Lyn lost her alternator which meant she had a
bout a half hour of electrics from the ****ps battery as long as she
shut gear down which she did.  Lyn gave her positions to Ray and then
her radio quit.  Ray found her and slowed down so that she could keep
the Duchess in sight all the time.  Lyn did have her battery driven
spare GPS.  They landed safely at Pago but then they had to get the
alternator fixed.  They discovered that the belt had broken.
Fortunately there was a belt in Pago and there is always 'old' Ray a
US mechanic who has been there for centuries it seems.  He took the
prop off put the belt on and tomorrow they leave, Ray for Noumea and
Lyn for Auckland.

Interestingly enough there is a back up battery system in the
aircraft.  You want to know something - the battery back up lasts for
half an hour and therefore that is the same amount of time as the
****ps battery - so the demise was more or less simultaneous.  Brand
New Archer still under warranty!
